Musee d'Aquitaine et autres choses amusantes.

As today is Sunday, everything is closed in Bordeaux (except some food stores and public things like galleries, etc). I decided to visit le musee d'Aquitaine, which is the regional gallery, as Aquitaine is the region or kind of state Bordeaux is in. I rugged up and walked there, it's only about 20 mins.
On my way there I stopped of at the local product markets. They're open everyday, but I didn't think today. It was probably the coolest place! It's indoor, with fresh fruit, veg and meat everywhere, among other things. I thought about buying a small pot plant for my room, but want to look elsewhere before I do for a pretty one. I ended up buying a straw bag with leather handles for my groceries and just general shopping later on. I felt very french carrying it around! Because I'm cooking for myself, I'm very aware of the meat I'm eating. We don't have a very big freezer, so there isn't heaps of room for everyone to store things in it. So, I've taken to buying my meat fresh everyday so it can be stored in the fridge on my shelf. Today, at the markets, I bought some hand made beef sausages! YUM!

I thought I'd have to go home after buying them to store them in the fridge straight away. But, it's so cold outside, it's like a natural fridge. So I continued to the museum. It's kind of like the equivalent of the Australian museum but has things way older. I went through just the permanent collection, which was pretty big and I got hungry, so I'll have to back some other time. It had some pretty cool stuff though!!! There was a pretty large roman section which had marble statues from the 1st century. I was hoping for lots of art, but it was more like historical artefacts, like bones and statues and relics and things. I think the musee des beaux arts is the place to go for paintings and things.
I didn't stay long though and on my way back stopped in at a bakery (well recommended by Léa) and bought a chocolate eclair. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Found an english pub on my way home!

I'm feeling much better about where I am now. I'm confident going out on my own and finding my own way. I know where things are and how to take short cuts to get places instead of going via the main streets every time.
I'm also really enjoying living with Léa and Leah. They're both wealths of information! Especially Léa, who has explained the way the final years of school work in France, how uni works, and other useful things about the city.
