Last night, the Bordeaux Australian crew headed over to Jason's house for his birthday. One of his housemates, Colette, was having a dinner party for him. Andrew and Nat are out of the region/country at the moment, so Sarah, Lucy, Candice and I were there, plus two of Jason's friends from uni who are in Caen this year, Chrissy and Jess. Plus Jason's housemate, housemates boyfriend, ex-housemate, new housemate and sister, Colette's sister and then at about 12:30pm, some more people came but I'm not sure exactly who they were... Colette and Jason cooked an amazing roast with veggies. It's the first home cooked meal I've had since being here that I haven't cooked myself! It was nice to talk to some other people in french around the table and afterwards. I've been feeling a little bit under the weather lately, so went home at about 1am.
I woke up this morning with a runny nose :( So have mostly just been relaxing with a bit of uni and tissue work. I have lots planned for tomorrow though.
One thing I did do today was go to church. All church services happen here in the morning, 10:30am seems to be a pretty common time. It seems so early! haha I chose an English speaking church for my first week. I thought it might be a good idea to have some English speaking Christian friends in Bordeaux. They were all so lovely! The pastor and his wife were from England, then there were people from Scotland, Ireland, America and South Africa. I'm pretty sure there would have been other nations represented though. I met one other Australian guy from Melbourne who has been here for 3 years now. The coolest though was an older lady who bible read. She looked and sounded so much like the queen, her accent was amazing!

The windows were amazing from inside

The service was very different to what I was used to! It was much more traditional. There were maybe 30 people there. Hymns were sung from a hymn book with an organ, communion was taken with everyone lining up down the centre aisle, everything was read from an order of service, including all prayers and bible readings, etc. We did a lot of standing! Halfway through the service, everyone got up and we all kissed on the cheeks and said "Peace be with you". It was pretty cool.
It took me about 30-40 minutes to get there. 5-10 minute walk to station, then a 20-25 minute bus ride. There are more local churches to me, the closest being a 5 minute walk. Most of them seem to be Catholic, but I'm going to try them out to find the best one. I'll be going to church with Miles next week in London! But then when I get back, I'll start trying out other ones.
